With live music 7 days a week the Evelyn Hotel is the place to be. Catch up with friends, have a game of pool, relax in the beer garden or party all night with the best live bands. It's all about location and The Evelyn Hotel is right in the middle of it.
A proud holdover from old and unfancy Fitzroy, Bar Open features a courtyard for summer, fireplaces for winter, and live music, exhibitions, and films all year round.
Black Cat Bar is the soul of Brunswick St, and was one of the first cafes there (depending on who you're asking, it was the first). Now with lots of alcohol and not much food. And it's clean, a turn-up on its past life. The bar is a compact place to enjoy a drink, or to dance in the compact single room with DJ on weekends. It's a great place to socialize with new friends. It's our favourite, and we put our office where we put it to be close to this bar.
Dante's boasts a wine bar fully stocked with a variety of premium wines. Please call to enquire about arranging a wine tasting or event.
For a unique dining experience supported by an extensive wine list, look no further than Dante's. Our restaurant caters from contemporary and modern tastes through to the traditional and olde world appetite.
Named after the owner's dog, this spacious bar is delightfully free from attitude. It is simple in design, but the massively high ceilings seem to create a huge space in which to drink the night away. Sit on couches or chairs and tables, or slip out the back and be in trendy restaurant Via. Sometimes on weekends people get up for a boogie, too.
The Night Cat, a much loved icon of Fitzroy has been entertaining crowds for over 15 years. From Hip Hop latin reggae to funk, salsa, swing or kitsch, there is always an interesting, fun live music scene entertaining those who love to DANCE!
The Night Cat is unique, a large open space in Fitzroy, distinctly decorated and beautifully lit by its originators in authentic Fitzroy style.
The Night Cat is the original, a much loved and appreciated institution.
The Night Cat is one of the only venues where the audience can experience a 360 degree view of the amazing bands that perform, having the stage set in the round, right in the middle of the venue.
A large dance floor caters to the majority of people who like to groove, but there is also plenty of lounge to just people watch.
Open Thursday to Sunday from 9pm with free entry this is definitely one of the best places to start the PARTY!!!!!!

Open 4pm til late mon-thurs, 12noon til late fri-sun, kitchen open 7 days, lunch friday to Sunday. The first level is a bar with fireplace, lots of natural light a cosy atmosphere for your drinking needs. The second level of the Marquis provides a relaxed dining experience, with the menu updated regularly according to season. The kitchen also serves drinking food and pub grub to the bar down stairs. The thrid floor has an intimate area available for small functions.
Opposite a grandiose Fitzroy Town Hall, sits this ever-popular pub where a mish mash of old furniture keeps patrons comfy. The small front bar is a good one for striking a 'one arm on the bar, the other clutching a pot' pose, and the adjacent pool room caters for those wanting a more comfortable seating arrangement with tables. Actually, maybe not so comfortable depending on where you are in there - the cluttered layout makes real the possibility of being nudged in the back by a pool cue. Larger tables and more chairs adorn the dining areas, and there is also seating outdoors, along the side. Service can be slow during quiet times, but the Napier boasts great food, drink and atmosphere.
First and foremost, the Old Colonial Hotel is towards the end of the Brunswick Street strip, which means that the alternative people in here are there specifically, rather than having stumbled in on accident. Which is what for us makes things more interesting, you see.
The main focus is the medium side room when bands play, which is difficult to fully see from outside. Which again, means that the people inside, are there because they know it's cool to be there.
Tucked away in the back streets, the Rose has long been a favourite of the locals. Leaning against the bar is the done thing, with both staff and fellow drinkers eager to chat about anything from the footy to what's cooking for dinner.
There's plenty of room for everyone, but all the tables will usually be gone - however a rear dining area tends to take some of the load off the front rooms. One can drink out the front, too.
Pub crawlers and mobile phone fanatics aren't welcome here, and the Standard has a few rules and regulations of this kind for punters to adhere to. Don't be alarmed though, as management's efforts to maintain a civilised environment has struck a chord with many and the Standard is a popular watering hole. The good menu, cosy environment and great beer garden might have something to do with it.
Pop in and see us. You'll find our friendly staff are waiting to take your order and pour your next drink. Enjoy a meal with family or friends, a quite drink, or get rowdy in the TAB. Come on down and say Hi! Relax with a game of Pool and a few cold ones.
Tucked away in the back streets of Fitzroy is The Union Club Hotel. Located on the corner of Gore and Webb Streets Fitzroy, the Union is a land mark corner pub and a true local. Come in and enjoy a great meal from Lazy Susan’s Kitchen or just a quiet afternoon beer in the sun filled public bar. In winter shoot some pool whilst you warm yourself by the open fire and of course catch the footy on the big screen. In Summer the ideal place is to sun yourself in the beer garden.
The Rochester Castle's famous indie, new-wave and electro night 'Panic!' provides a cure for dance addicts and workaholics alike. If you're feeling sluggish from staring at four walls all week, 'Panic!' (every Friday) is a way to get your blood pumping again. This renovated pub is one of the few places in Melbourne where you can let it all hang out and get dancing to anti-Top 40 stuff. Expect to hear all the new-wave classics as well as hits from Britain's current new wave bands - such as Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party.

We're part of the new breed of club that cares about the punter and will play/perform/pour according to what the punter wants to hear/see/drink, how can you go wrong?
The laundry now stands for smokin' lush and ambient tunes downstairs every night of the week including ambient drum 'n' bass, laid-back big beat and other grooves with some of the most notable mix masters playing some of the smoothest hip hop you're likely to see...
However, if you want something a little less laid-back, you can go up hard from wednesday to saturday on spin cycle upstairs where we've provided the lighting and the going off tunes to ensure you can loosen up your whims without leaving the heart of fitzroy...

Bimbo Deluxe's highlight is its 'chilled infused vodkas'. The main doors of this busy central bar open into dim lighting. The Bimbo Deluxe has a funky blend, a pool table, and cheap pizzas all at one place which makes it a 'happening place' of Melbourne. There is always a live DJs spinning decent, loud music on the side.
Located in the back streets of Fitzroy for over 140 years, about 50 metres from the thriving hub that is Brunswick Street, this hidden beauty stands tall and proud as one of Melbourne’s oldest and friendliest pubs. Now open 7 days a week, the King brothers have introduced a new twist to a classic venue, with over 100 beers from here and around the world available. Come on in to sample a fine selection of ales, enjoy some wonderful cooking by the chefs, get amongst the fantastic array of live bands, or just bring a bunch of mates for a beer and a game of pool in the massive beer garden.
Many of us Fitzroy dwellers may have noticed that The Rob Roy Hotel has experienced a transformation in the last twelve months. One of the nights that is run here now on a Thursday is live music in the back room, which adds a new aspect to the pub & the pub’s culture. The night started in January of this year & since then many acts have come through the venue including The Killjoys, Philippa Nihill (ex-Underground Lovers), Matt Handley (Pollyanna), Quincy McLean & The Smooth Bastards (ex-Blue Ruin), Peter Archer (Crow) & Malcolm Hill, who many will remember as the support on the recent Nick Cave tour. The night is run as part of the Gertrude Street Sessions in conjunction with Builders Arms Hotel & like the Builders, the staff are friendly & are mostly artists or musicians from the Fitzroy area. The room holds 200 people with areas for standing or lounging & has received a warm welcome from the bands & punters with the atmosphere providing space for both relaxing & rockin’ tunes. Although the Rob Roy’s clientele has changed, the funky 70’s wallpaper has not & apart from the music, this is an aspect we are very proud of! Shows start at 9pm with the venue being open until 3am for those of us who like to kick on into the wee hours.
Yah Yah's hosts bands and DJs every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. We spin rock, soul, garage, surf, exotica, 60s, 70s and more. With a rotating line-up of bands and DJs playing every Thursday to Saturday, it’s the sort of setting you can imagine ending up being later being chronicled as the meeting place for next generation of Melbourne’s rock royalty. Pass by on a Friday night and the place is pumping, not bad for a venue that has been open less than three months.
The Royal Derby is one of the longest standing bars in Fitzroy, located on the corner of Brunswick St & Alexander Parade, the venue boast a welcoming beer garden, pool tables, comfy couches, a checker board dancefloor and everything you'd expect from a good pub behind the bar. Tony's signature award winning pizzas are served fresh and til late.
For over 6 years The Stage has been home to a great diversity of world music that is uniquely Melbourne. It is one of the few venues where you can immerse yourself in a different culture thoughout the week. Regular monthly events include African dance nights, Flamenco shows, Belly dance party nights, Tango nights & of course Melbourne’s greatest Latin dance night happens every Saturday. Throughout the week dance classes are available including Cuban/Salsa on Tuesday, Argentine Tango on Wednesdays, & Latin/Salsa & Swing on Thursdays.
The Stage is also renowned for hosting non-mainstream theatre and is a regular participant in Fringe, Midsumma and other such festivals. With 2 floor levels, huge stage areas, dressing room facilities, huge dance floors, in house PA and lighting systems, The Stage is simply fantastic for theatre, launches, benefits and also functions, all of which can be fully catered.
The Stage offers casual dining with inexpensive home style Mediterranean meals on the chargrill, as well as vegetarian dishes & light snacks…whilst for group bookings set menu banquet style eating is extremely popular.
In all, The Stage provides for a diverse entertainment experience where you can wine, dine & dance all under the one roof.
While we don't have a private room, we do have plenty of areas for groups of up to 100 to take over for an afternoon or night.
When the season permits, the back yard is a ripper & there's a few lounge areas you can reserve or just meet in the bar to watch the footy.
You can buy a beer & other stuff from the bar, there are no hire fees because what you see is what you get around here. If you like the sound of Johhny Cash or any of the above ideas then get in touch or drop in for a beer after midday any day. The Commercial Club does however suggest that you celebrate your 18th Birthday at home.
The best live music venue in town.. come down to the Birmingham Hotel and see for yourself!
Having undergone a major interior overhaul in late 2005, the Builders Arms Hotel re-opened as an almost new venue with some cool design features, particularly the old dance room that emerged phoenix-like into a funky, yet elegant dining room. The menu offers Moroccan/middle eastern influenced pub food, while there are spacious fitted couches to loll around on.
